Membership in the Pennsylvania Commandery of the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States is offered in four categories: Hereditary, Junior, Associate and Honorary.
Hereditary — Available to lineal male descendants of a commissioned officer who served in any branch of the Union forces during the Civil War or lineal male descendants of a sibling of any such officer. Applicants in this category must also be at least eighteen years of age.
Junior — Available to lineal male descendants of an eligible officer or lineal male descendants of a sibling of any such officer. Applicants in this category must also be less than eighteen years of age. Junior Companions may not vote or hold office.
Associate — Available to men age eighteen years or older not known to be eligible for Hereditary membership but subscribing to the Preamble, Principles and Objects of the Order and demonstrating a serious interest in the Civil War and whose membership will advance the objects of the Order. Associate Companions may vote, serve on committees and be elected to Commandery offices, but no Associate Companion shall be eligible for election to office in the Commandery-in-Chief.
Honorary — Granted by the Commandery-in-Chief or an individual Commandery under the provisions of the Order's Constitution and bylaws.
